Photographs & Memories - Mona Maamari: Reminiscing a 2020 world tour
Having left Lebanon at a young age before the civil war broke out, our third Memory Maker grew up in Saudi Arabia before moving to Paris, France to earn her MA. With her masters in her pocket, all she knew was that she wanted a job with an open door to the world.
Listen to the travel tales from Mona Maamari, as our memory maker reflects on her career in the travel and hospitality sector and the memories she’s made on the road. From a market planning and pricing job at Disneyland Resort Paris, to Thomas Cook and then to major hotel groups Radisson and NH Hotels Mona forged a career in revenue. In 2019, she and her young family departed on a world tour, taking a step back from her career to work in schools, farms and kitchens around the globe. Mona has traveled far and wide including Orlando, Washington DC, Majorca, London, Madrid, Barcelona, Milano, Amsterdam, Brussels, Stockholm, Moscow and many more beautiful places.
In this episode of Photographs & Memories, hear the joys Mona discovered on her travels and what she learnt along the way; “In all the countries that are not so developed as we are, it really is the women that are the strongest”. And in talking about the aboriginal culture; “We look at things by what we know and what we’ve seen. We need to make an effort to always challenge ourselves, as there is always another way, another right way, not always looking at things the same as others.”
In the new Photographs & Memories series, our guests - Memory Makers - choose three photographs and a treasured souvenir recalling places and people from their travels. It’s an intimate look at the moments important to them, whether personally or professionally. The items transport the Memory Maker on a journey back in time, giving them the chance to reflect on the significance of life’s moments and the impact on themselves and the world around them. We hope it’s a journey you enjoy.
